Connecting Trading 212
Trading 212 connects with an API key you create in Trading 212. The one thing to get right is its permissions.
Which accounts connect
Trading 212 Invest and Stocks ISA accounts. Other account types cannot be connected at the moment.
Creating the API key
- In Trading 212, open the API settings and create a new key.
- Switch on every permission except
Orders - Execute. Leave that one off: it would let the key place trades, and we only ever read. - Copy the key. In Endute, open
Manage Connections, clickLink Investments, choose Trading 212 and paste the key when asked.
A missing permission can stop the sync
Account data and Metadata are needed to connect at all, and without Portfolio the connection cannot sync anything. Leaving other permissions off can leave out your trades. To fix a key: create a new one with every permission on except Orders - Execute, disconnect Trading 212 in Manage Connections, connect it again with the new key, and map it onto the same Endute account. What is already there stays; tracking restarts from that day, with your holdings as they stand, and earlier trades are not added one by one. What to expect
- Trading 212 sends “CSV export ready” notifications: several at the first sync, which takes a few minutes, then about one a day. That is the connection fetching your activity; you do not need to download or open them.
- Tracking starts on the day you connect. Your holdings come in as they stand, at the average cost Trading 212 reports (or that day's price where it reports none); trades, dividends and cash movements are tracked from then on.
- Orders placed by value in another currency (for example £2 of a US share) sometimes come through without a quantity. Your holdings still match Trading 212, because every sync checks them against its positions.
- The connection lasts years rather than weeks. Deleting the key in Trading 212 stops it.
