Budgets and mixed-currency spending

Budgets are set in your base reporting currency, one number per category per month. The spending that counts against them can come from any account: a groceries category holding one pound purchase and two euro purchases simply converts each transaction at its own date and sums the results. You budget in the currency you think in, spend in whatever currency the till demanded, and the comparison stays meaningful because each purchase was converted at the rate of its day.

Why per-date conversion matters

Converting history at today's rate would quietly rewrite the past every time currencies moved: last winter's holiday would get more or less expensive in your reports without a single new transaction. Per-date conversion pins each amount to what it was actually worth when it happened. Your spending history is a record, and records should hold still.

The reports, specifically

All spending and income reports follow the per-date rule, and the Budget vs Actuals report extends it to the plan side too: budgeted amounts and rollover balances convert at each budget month, so a year-long view never mixes rates within a single labelled figure. The Needs/Wants/Savings ratios convert per transaction as well, which matters when needs skew to one currency and wants to another, a common shape for anyone living across two countries.

Choosing the display currency

The Currency picker on the report pages offers your base currency plus every currency your accounts hold. The numbers re-express, the conversion dates stay the same, and nothing about your data changes; it is the same report wearing a different denomination. The mobile apps currently show reports in your base currency only, with the picker on the roadmap for parity.
